Hello World!
Several years ago, while struggling to survive in San Francisco as a temp (go to hell McCall's Staffing Services!), I came up with an idea to make a little extra cash by exploiting (no, let's call it "maximizing") my apartment complex's tenant referral bonus program.
"What's a tenant referral program?" You may ask. Well my friend, if you don't know by now, then you either:
A. Don't live in an apartment complex (lucky you, but hey, how's that mortgage?)
Or
B. Live in a shitty apartment complex that offers no such bonuses for tenant referrals (in which case I'm afraid this site may not be for you)
Or
C. Haven't yet discovered the joy of duping your landlords and saving money on rent each and every month!
This site is primarily for those in category C, but A & B listen-up (maybe you're looking to move, or maybe you're defaulting on your mortgage, in which case you're welcome to move to my tenement, please, allow me to refer you!).
Still with me? Then read on:
Esentially, this whole scheme is quite simple, and boils down to two easy steps.
Step 1.
Find out from your apartment complex's rental office if there is a bonus for referring "friends" to sign-on as new tenants. If so, find out how much the bonus is worth. .
Step 2
Post a listing on the forum at hostinthebay.com with the name of the apartment complex you live in (include a link to a map), your contact info (I suggest using an anonymous email account), and the percentage of the bonus you will share with a new tenant (eg, 50/50 split, 60% to the new tenant, etc.)
It's as simple as that! Trust me, this works. I have spent the past two years in large apartment complexes (300+ units) and have been able to save over $2,500 on rent!
So why am I giving away this secret? What's in it for me? Well, let's just say I get a whole lot of satisfaction out of helping my neighbors, yeah... that's it. Renters of the World Unite!
